• UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK CLOSURE - our services include managing the removal and remediation process as part of a comprehensive environmental closure approach by qualified registered professional engineers and geologists. Koehler Engineering per State regulatory requirements, including regulations for the handling and disposing of UST’s and associated waste materials. In the State of Missouri, we have completed closure projects in compliance with the Missouri Risk Based Closure Assessment (MRBCA) guidelines, as well as work the with Petroleum Storage Tank Insurance Fund, to ensure the work is performed properly and efficiently. Our focus is to (1) minimize environmental impacts from leakage of petroleum products into the soil and ground-water, and control cost to our clients.

  • PHASE 1 ENVIRONMENTAL SITE ASSESSMENTS - these reports are prepared by our registered professional engineers and geologist for real estate and business transactions such as: land purchases, building purchases, leases, business purchases, new residential development, and bank loans. Our Phase 1 ESA reports adhere to American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard to the Environmental Protection Agency All Appropriate Inquiries Rule, codified into the federal regulations by EPA (40 CFR Part 312). This type of Phase 1 Environmental report is the one required by lenders and is highly recommended prior to purchasing commercial or industrial real estate, or prior to starting new residential developments.

  • PHASE 2 ENVIRONMENTAL SITE ASSESSMENTS - these reports are sometimes required when Recognized Environmental Condition (REC) is found during the Phase 1 Environmental Assessment process. Phase 2 ESA consist of collecting soil samples to screen for chemical or metal contamination. This sampling is conducted by drill rig, hydraulic push, hand auger or backhoe, depending on site specific conditions. Phase 2 Environmental reports can also include sampling of ground-water and surface water. This testing is recommended when there is a significant potential for the existence of an environmental liability that can affect the value of a property. Environmental liabilities are associated with regulatory-mandated cleanup, disposal of regulated-waste, and civil liability. Civil liability occurs when the contamination has migrated off site or when tenants sue over exposure to hazardous materials.

  • WORK PLACE EXPOSURE MONITORING - Koehler Engineering is currently working with industrial clients on work place exposure monitoring for chemical and physical hazards. Our ABIH board-certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) has an extensive background in the environmental fields. We offer rapid response, real time monitoring; or if laboratory analyses is required, we can typically provide 24 to 48 hour turn-around on samples.

  • MOLD INSPECTION AND IAQ EVALUATIONS - Independent Evaluation by a Certified Industrial Hygienist. Our certified Industrial Hygienist provides mold testing on a fast turn-around time frame. His services include:
    • Direct sampling for commercial and residential building evaluations
    • Air quality testing for mold spores, particulates, allergens and other contaminants
    • Evaluation of building for moisture accumulation that leads to mold growth
    • Reports depicting the results of the building evaluation and protocol for mold remediation


Koehler Engineering is equipped with the tools, personal skills and regulatory experience to conduct site investigations and contaminant hydrogeology. Our field investigations and reviews include the following activities:

  1. Analysis and assessment of subsurface conditions by geotechnical drilling, geophysical surveys or other subsurface sampling methods
  2. Evaluation and determination of direction and rate of ground-water flow
  3. Modeling of contaminant and transport
  4. Assessment of contaminant impact on ground-water supplies
  5. Evaluation and assessment of human exposure and risk assessment relating to contaminated soil and ground-water
  6. Development and assessment of ground-water remediation system design, operation and effectiveness
